  • 412,000 totes pulled back out of the waste stream
  • 24,700 tons of HDPE diverted from landfill
  • 61,800 tons of CO₂e avoided
  • 19.4M gallons of process water saved
  • Zero-landfill operation since 2016
  • 48 states served from one yard
  • A reused tote beats a recycled tote — every single time

§ 07Industries / IND-07

Construction & concrete admixtures

Concrete plants and construction sites are where grade B- totes belong. The chemistry is mostly aqueous and non-permeating, cosmetic condition is entirely irrelevant, and the handling environment would ruin a pristine unit within a month anyway.

Chemistry
Mostly aqueous; some oil-based release agents
Appearance
Entirely irrelevant
Handling
Rough — impact damage expected
Sites
Unpaved, temporary, equipment varies

§ 07.aWhat arrives in totes

The products we see in this sector.

  • Water-reducing and superplasticising admixtures
  • Air-entraining agents
  • Set accelerators and retarders
  • Curing compounds
  • Form release agents
  • De-icing brines
  • Jobsite washdown water

§ 07.bWhat we recommend

Specification for this duty.

Default grade
B- — the cheapest tested stock we sell
Gasket
EPDM for admixtures; Buna-N for oil-based release agents
Pallet
Steel for site durability; plastic at fixed plants
Valve
3" butterfly for viscous superplasticisers
Closure
Vented; solid for brine stored outdoors
B-
Recommended grade

Cheapest tested stock we sell.

Steel
Recommended pallet

For site durability.

85%
Winter fill level for aqueous

Leaves room for freeze expansion.

Chloride-bearing accelerators and brines are a reason to use HDPE rather than stainless, which is vulnerable to chloride stress corrosion cracking at temperature.

§ 07.dSector-specific problems

What goes wrong here, and what we do about it.

Four problems we see repeatedly in this sector, with the answer rather than a sales line.

01

The problem

Buying grade A- for an application that cannot see it

Our answer

We will decline to sell you up. Describe the duty and we recommend B-, which is tested and sound and materially cheaper.

02

The problem

Superplasticisers are viscous and discharge slowly

Our answer

Specify a 3-inch butterfly valve. Bore matters far more than head pressure for viscous products.

03

The problem

Winter brine storage splits bottles

Our answer

Reduce the fill to around 85% or move units indoors. Aqueous products expand roughly 9% on freezing against 5% designed headspace.

04

The problem

Totes damaged by rough site handling

Our answer

Steel pallets, corner protectors, and a repair-before-replace habit. A cracked pallet foot is a base swap, not a retirement.
